This week was the final week to work on all of our stuff! We finished the scooter and it looked pretty good, the brakes and the helmet were all ready. At the community forum we prepared the table and was ready to present, our experience at the forum was great. At the forum we learned a lot about other groups’ project, as well as getting feedback on our project. We presented about the risks that come with e-scooters and how we are trying to prevent them by using our helmet, we told them about how over 90% of e-scooter user that ended up in hospitals didn’t wear a helmet. We also presented this website and how they can contact us on our contact page and see our blogs on this page. We prepared for this community forum by bringing in our e-scooter early in the morning the day earlier and printed out the poster so people could look at it and understand the project. We learned that people thought it was a good idea and they would like to see it be implemented. Submitted By:Evan
Last week, me(Evan), Jackson, and Cameron finalized our scooter. We put together a video of us building and are currently in the process of finishing everything we did last week. We are currently starting a video on our progress throughout this project. We are also preparing our presentation for the CBL forum. We also took a survey on who would wear a helmet that another person has worn even if it was disinfected. Over 70% of 44 people had said that they would wear a helmet that was disinfected if another person had worn it. That is a huge increase of people from the previous number of 20% of people that said they would wear a helmet if it was not disinfected. Also, over 93% of people said that they would wear a helmet on an electric scooter. With this data we were able to conclude that most people would wear our helmet while riding an electric scooter. Our group has started to implement the solution. We have had a design change, we have added a brake system. This break system makes automatic braking when turning the E-Scooter. We have built this out of wire, metal rods and screws. We took the wire and ran it through the bottom of the E-Scooter. Then we put it out and up attaching to the break at the end ii of the E-Scooter. We have added the original design of our helmet witch has worked out just as planned. It fits on the E-Scooter and has a sanitation spray on the other side of the frame of the E-Scooter. Submitted By: Jackson
This past week our group has made the plan to execute the solution for our problem. We will start building soon. We will first attach the helmet by opening up the E-Scooters frame and putting the attachable piece in it then. We will discuss adding more details to our scooter to further enhance the mobility and safety of the E-Scooters. Last week we have talked about the technology needed to make our scooter. We believe that with the improvement made our E-Scooter will make the E-Scooter companies want it more and would be willing to listen to our idea. Submitted By: Cameron
This week we talked with faculty at our school for feedback, we learned that we would need to make sure our helmet was secured to the scooter and not be cut off by scissors. Also, we learned we might have to present our ideas in different ways. Our solution will now have to have a strong wire and we will research what type of disinfectant spray for our helmet. And the community that we are working with continues to be Santa Monica and more specifically Bird. Our solution would be very important because it would save many people from injuries and help companies avoid lawsuit from un-cautious riders that don't wear helmets. This will save many from injuries and save rider and companies alike money. Once we are done with this project this we expect to see less people getting injured by head injuries that use bird. After much discussion, me (Evan), Cameron, and Jackson have finally come up with a specified topic on our broad topic of transportation. Last week we were thinking about making our specific topic about injuries related to electric scooters and this week we finally decided on this. We decided to research injuries related to e-scooters because there are so many e-scooters around where we live and we thought that there could be no way that they are not causing a problem in some way. We did research and found out that there are many people getting injured from these scooters. Electric scooters can be extremely useful but also extremely dangerous so we immediately started researching ways to fight this problem. On day 1 of week 2 we all came together and are now thinking about ways to fight this growing issue of injuries related to electric scooters. We found out that the most prominent injuries related to e-scooters are head injuries so we are basing are thinking of that for now. One solution that we came up with is an attachable helmet to e-scooters so users do not have to bring them around with them everywhere when they ride them. This helmet would attach on to an e-scooter like an extendable dog leash and come with a lice disinfectant. All of us agreed to propose this idea to adults we would see in the following days. On day 2 and 3 we received the feedback from the adults on our idea. All of them thought that we had a great idea, but thought of some amazing suggestions to improve it. They also asked us many great questions to get us thinking about how we will execute this idea. Submitted By: Jackson
In week one of the CBL our group, Evan, Cameron, and Jackson came together to find a transportation problem that does not have a workable solution. On the first day we decided that we wanted to focus on transportation. On the first day we had different ideas on what are specific topic would be. On the second day we came together and decided that we would focus on E-Scooters, we are going to focus on this problem because there are a lot of injuries from E-Scooters. We want to reduce the injury rate while improving the efficiency and make the mobility better. We think that E-Scooters have such a impact on people’s lives, because the amount of cars on the streets cause traffic and unnecessary crashes. E-Scooters can fix this problem because they are fast and affordable. Ford Motor company has bought one of the E-Scooters companies, this is just another example of how the supply and decade for E-Scooters are rising and the car supply and demand is decreasing. The rate of E-Scooters being used are skyrocketing and so is the injury rate. This is a huge problem and we are going to go after the solution. ___________________________________________________________________________ |
